Atlanta Metro and Neighborhood Information
Atlanta, the capital of Georgia, became world renowned after hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. The city built many new attractions for the onslaught of tourists, and many remain today. The most popular is the Centennial Olympic Park. It has been adopted for residential use and is home to the world's largest interactive fountain, the Fountain of Rings. From April to October, the park offers music at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Much is to be said about the amount of entertainment provided by Atlanta for residential families. Underground Atlanta, which is literally under the streets of the city, was built on the Creek Indian Village and Trading Post and offers shopping, dining and an exciting nightlife. Residents also have Stone Mountain Park, Zoo Atlanta, and the Atlanta Jazz Festival, which is conducted in May, featuring a month-long series of concerts, all at their doorsteps. Families can enjoy some of America's favorite pastimes by watching the Atlanta Braves (MLB), Atlanta Hawks (NBA) or the Atlanta Falcons (NFL).
Vibrant business district
'The Big Peach' is rich with historical significance. The national historic site of Martin Luther King Jr. surrounds his childhood home on Auburn Avenue in the historic Sweet Auburn district. Atlanta is a popular city to call home. The Grant Park neighborhood is a good example of a growing community with many fun family events held throughout the year. The three city districts comprise of downtown, Midtown and Buckhead. On the outer limits are two major suburbs, Perimeter Center and Cumberland/Vinings. The first planned suburb in the city was Inman Park and more have appeared since then, including Roswell, Sandy Springs, Marietta and Peachtree City.
The vast selection of affordable homes in Atlanta can be attributed to the surge of companies establishing headquarters in the heart of the downtown district. Rising out from the ashes of the Civil War, Atlanta has grown into a booming business city and is still ranked the 'most heavily forested urban area in the country' by the U.S. Forest Service.
