The city is also the birthplace of the Louisville Slugger, the official bat of Major League Baseball and a catalyst that revolutionized America's favorite pastime. The Louisville Slugger Museum showcases the history of the popular brand and houses exhibits of historical bats, such as the one legendary baseball player Babe Ruth used for his last homerun as a New York Yankee. The Belle of Louisville steamboat is perhaps one of the most beloved symbols of this city. Built in 1914, this grand ship is the oldest steamboat in operation; it became a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
