Description
Belle Alliance, "Beautiful Alliance" in French, was the largest of the antebellum bayou sugar cane plantation houses until 1915. The present structure was designed by noted New Orleans architect Henry Howard and built in 1846 by the Kock and McCall families. An 1889 addition, which doubled the size of the house, included the ballroom, an elaborate Beaux Arts fireplace, and a 9-foot stained glass transom. Today, Belle Alliance is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been totally restored. Period furnishings, textiles, and art decorate its historic rooms which include a parlor, music room, library, man's bedroom and ballroom.
