Carrie is basically a Steven King take on a Judy Blume story. Instead of Are 'You There God? It's Me Margrett', think 'Are You There Satan? It's Me, Carrie'. To say that Carrie's home life is a little unusual in an understatement, Carrie's mom is nuts, her high school makes Gossip Girl look like a Military Academy, and the hottest dude in her class is John Travolta.
But this is where Carrie goes from good to great, to deal with all this she cops out to the usual teen movie stuff: She doesn't conform, she doesn't get a makeover, instead she discovers the awesome ability to move objects with her mind!!! That is when things get awesome for Carrie. She gets to be the prom queen, takes revenge on her snotty classmates when the embarrass her at prom, and finally stands up to her mom.
The revenge theme of this movie marks the first time that people were shocked that they sympathized with the 'monster' in a horror movie. Not only is this one of scariest movies of all time, but the movie has developed a large cult following, including a 1980's musical corregraphed by So You Think You Can Dance judge, Debbie Allen.
