Open a newspaper or turn on the television, and it's not hard to notice that the housing market isn't doing so hot. But despite the slump, one home builder has something to smile about.

Atlanta-based John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods was ranked highest in customer satisfaction among new home builders in Atlanta and Charlotte in the 2008 New-Home Builder Customer Satisfaction Study recently released by J.D. Power and Associates. This marks the second consecutive year that Wieland has ranked highest in the Atlanta and Charlotte market customer satisfaction studies.

'We're excited to see these remarkable results for the second year in a row,' says Eric Price, Wieland president and CEO. 'It's an important achievement for our company,' 'We've always maintained and will continue to maintain a strong focus on quality and our customer experience at every level of our organization. We're grateful for the confidence our customers place in us. It will always be our goal to deliver the highest level of quality everyday.'

Now in its 12th year, the J.D. Power study measures nine factors that drive overall customer satisfaction (listed in order of importance):

• Builder warranty and customer service
• Construction manager
• Builder's sales staff
• Home readiness
• Price and value
• Workmanship and materials
• Recreational facilities
• Builder's design center and location

The study's rankings are compiled from responses by new home buyers who have lived in their homes an average of four to 18 months.

Good for them! As a consumer, it's very encouraging to hear that despite a challenging market, especially for the builder sector, a commitment to quality is not being compromised. Thanks Amy for posting some good news about the market, it's so easy to get bogged down by all the housing gloom lately.
Comment from Andy, a Consumer:

John Weiland Homes has a great reputation in Atlanta and they realize that this downturn in the market in general actually can create an opportunity for them to highlight and showcase their commitment to quality. Smart moves by JWH to increase their marketing in certain sectors will only help cement their reputation as the best of the best in Atlanta.
Comment from Melissa, a Consumer:

What great news! It is so important to a consumer, such as myself, to hear that builders are still looking out for the greater good of the consumer! Thanks for the positive information!

Be warned! I don't understand how Wieland deserves such a stellar reputation. We purchased a 8 year old Wieland home three years ago. We feel like we live in a 50yr+ old home. Since purchasing, we've had to replace most of the windows on the house at $10K+ (apparentely the entire neighborhood has had issues, and tried to file a class action suite awhile back), our garage door buckled and collapsed (also happened others in the n'hood), and our pipes running to the city sewage system need to be dug up and replaced, as they were not properly laid to begin with ($20K in sewage damage to our home and for replacing all the pipes). Our next door neighbors had the entire left had side of their home sink, and had to spend $10K to have deep reinforcements put in! When we called Wieland to discuss the faulty construction, we were treated rudely and basically told "too bad". . Wieland doesn't stand by their homes...and while you may have a good experience on the front end with a new home...be warned! You could be up to you eyeballs with faulty construction issues within the next decade.
Comment from Mikell:

Double be warned! Weiland does not stand behind their warranty. It does not matter if you report it within the warranty time....we reported our problems when the house was 7 years old. It will be ten years old in a couple of months and a Weiland representative has told us that they will not honor our warranty after that time. Then he has the nerve to say that they will not receive any warranty rebates so they would be spending money on our repairs. How are consumers protected? Weiland has done an inspection and we have signed a repair report but all along, they knew they would not "get to it" before the house was ten years old. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it! I intend to tell everyone for as long as I breathe.....DON'T BUY A WEILAND HOME!!!!!!
