Your Computer is a Moron

I recently attended RETechSouth in Atlanta and let me tell you… these folks get it! In only its second year, this one-day, power-shake workshop created by Matt Fagioli and Brad Nix is chock full of good real estate protein – knowledgeable speakers giving 30 minute training sessions on relevant topics that help agents sell more real estate – all packaged with a super-sized friendly pill that makes you want to friend them and everyone else on Facebook!

The highlight for me happened early in the morning when Jeff Turner of Real Estate Shows threw up a slide that said… Your computer is a moron. And for just a few seconds, the pattering of laptop keystrokes slowed… and heads turned upward to the stage. It was a beautiful moment, almost as if the power went out and only one person had a candle. The message was… why do you care how many people friend you on Facebook or follow you on Twitter? That's irrelevant. What matters is you and the meaningful connections you can make using technology. When you focus on connecting with others and not on adding up your connections, you get it. And, you'll benefit.

Of course, the remainder of the day was filled with ways to, what else?… increase your connections! Whether it's photo blogging, tweeting, linking-in or streaming video, it's all out there just waiting for each of us to grab hold, be authentic and have fun.

See ya 'round ;)

So why can't I post this article to my facebook page?
Comment from Rhett Damon:

Right! Changing that.
Comment from Frank Chimento:

Love your comments. Facebook should refer to connections as "glances" or "memories" because real, authentic connections are something else entirely. Great observations... loved the computer is a moron pattern interrupt.
Comment from Scott Sheaffer:

Well written post and your point is so valid. As someone who is active in social networking on the web, I have come to realize that it truly is a quality game, not a numbers game. A thousand followers on Twitter that you don't know or interact with is of almost no value whatsoever.
Comment from Ron Emery:

This could not be more true. As an avid user of both Twitter and Facebook the number has nothing to do with the awesome connections that I have made.

Well for me computer isn't the moron but the user who use it. Many people would go for Instant cash loans to get laptops or pc desktop since computers are important nowadays. Computer provides education/information and entertainment to all of us. It is up to us on how we used it. Always remember computers are just machine, it is us, human, who controls them and not them controlling us.
