2012 HomeFinder.com Agent Makeover Sweepstakes winner, Jaclyn Erwin is a 8-year real estate industry veteran and owner of Jackson Erwin Realty, Charlotte, NC. Jaclyn recaps her HomeFinder.com Agent Makeover experience and what she took away from her business and style makeover in Chicago.
1.) What were your motivating factors to enter the sweepstakes? I saw a great opportunity to enter a contest focused on bettering real estate professionals.
2.) What part of your business are you most looking forward to making over? I am most looking forward to improving all technology aspects of my real estate business. I plan to implement tools such as client integration software, social media and cloud-base programs that will further enhance my real estate practice, while adding value to my client’s needs.

4.) What was the most valuable piece of business/marketing advice you took away from the makeover? Take your business to the next level without creating barriers. There really is no limit to the level of success I can achieve in real estate.
5.) What was the most valuable piece of style advice you took away from the makeover? Coordinating my outfits and wardrobe with more colorful clothing pieces to express my personality. I am an extrovert by nature; I love connecting and helping others, whether they are within my profession or not. I also like to change up a bit in terms of my hairstyles. However, my business wardrobe tended to a bit “safe” with mine consisting of your general blue and black suits topped off with black heels.
6.) As a winner of the sweepstakes, if you had to share one piece of business makeover advice with your real estate colleagues, what would it be? Embrace your own beauty & don’t be afraid to step outside the box. Women in general tend to place ourselves within a box according to what society deems the “norm.” We are not all the same and never were created to be—that’s the beauty in life!
7.) How will your style makeover help to improve the business side of your business? I made a promise to myself that I will grow my wardrobe. The plan is to purchase a complete outfit at least once per month. I admit it, I hate shopping for clothes; I’d rather shop for gadgets, tech tools, or anything to satisfy my hobbies. In the past I would take 20 minutes to find something to wear and that was it.
8.) What was the most exciting part about your style makeover? It had to be the Nordstrom experience. I just went with it and allowed the professionals at Nordstrom to educate and show me the latest trends for the fall.
9.) How do you feel incorporating social media and new technology will help you better interact with your clients/potential clients? I have always used some form of social media, whether it was blogging or participating on Active Rain. I have to admit, I am probably the last person on earth to try Facebook. Now, seeing how my colleagues use it to successfully for their real estate practices, I’m going to give it a try!
10.)What was your favorite part of the trip/what was the most important thing you learned? Do I really need to pick a favorite? For me, it was the entire experience! I am so blessed to have received this experience. The entire HomeFinder.com team is extraordinary; they were simply awesome and made us all feel right at home. I didn’t want to leave. Getting to meet other professionals within our industry from different areas of the country simply rocked! Real estate, in general across the country is the same concept, but the practices, procedures and ways in which other real estate professionals work are varied. The most important lesson, take your business to the next level; there’s truly no limit! In all, this entire experience was completely awesome! Not only did I leave with valuable tools, advice and resources to further enhance my practice, but I also left now knowing four other wonderful real estate colleagues. Until we meet again…
