Interior accents fit for the Blue Room: Emphasize your room’s lighting. This is the easiest way to dress up any room and give it an instant face-lift. Katherine also suggests choosing a simple look and color palette, with monochromatic color schemes for each room.
Adorn your walls with Green Room worthy art: Make a statement with your wall décor by completing some easy DIY projects. Simply use a staple gun to wrap frames with inexpensive fabric, or purchase blank canvases and paint to achieve a custom color. Additional DIY wall art projects include: framing vintage scarves; framing wallpaper remnants; write song lyrics meaningful to you/your family on a blank canvas; or frame city maps from treasured vacations.
Curate a collection that would make Jacqueline Kennedy jealous: Spend several weekends exploring local flea markets, antique shops, and furniture consignment stores. The inventory is generally less expensive, better quality and more unique than big brand stores. If you lack the time to dedicate your weekend to finding treasures, visit Etsy.com, a site where you can purchase countless homemade and vintage home accents and furniture.
Left – wing vs. Right – wing: Carefully choose the items on which you will save and splurge. Save on items such as linens, kitchenware (every day silverware/dishes) and even carpeting. Katherine suggests splurging on a sofa; arguably your common area’s most occupied piece of furniture. Remember when purchasing a sofa, you get what you pay for. If you splurge on a sofa you will find that it is well made, long lasting, and will be the perfect focal point in your living room.
