Washington, D.C. is one of the most culturally and historically diverse hubs in the country, and a piece of this history just went onto the housing market.
According to UrbanTurf, the oldest home in the capital was just put up for sale for a hefty $5.3 million. While this property is reportedly the oldest residence still standing in the city, it does have some more modern amenities, such as a swimming pool and tennis court.
The main house on the plot of land is believed to have been built in 1793, but a smaller cottage tucked away on the grounds dates back to 1730.
However, not all homes for sale in Washington, D.C. are accompanied with such an expensive price tag. The most recent Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller Home Price Index found that the average price of a home inside The Beltway edged 0.6 percent lower in January on an annual basis.
The local housing market has continued to outperform national real estate averages during recent years, which could make investing in property in the area a healthy investment for years to come.
